More Marcelo Balboa for everyone!

According to ESPN, John Harkes has joined Bruce Arena as an assitant for the NY Red Bulls. Harkes is one of the best players to ever put on a US jersey eventhough thats probably the equivalent of saying he's one of the best players to put on a Vandy jersey. Not that it takes anything away from Harkes, but US Soccer isn't exactly a factory of world class players. Just the same he was always one of my personal favorites. And a lot of credit goes to guys like Wynalda, Harkes, and Tab Ramos for laying the ground work for today's US team. It will also be interesting to watch the rebuilding project going on in NY and see how long it takes Areana and company to turn things around. The only draw back to Harkes moving to the side lines is the seat he vacates in the press booth. While Harkes isn't the John Madden or Harry Carrey of calling soccer games, he is miles ahead of his former US teammate. I for one was hoping that following the World Cup maybe Harkes would bump Balboa and friends from the "#1" broadcast team, however now it looks more like soccer fans in the US will be treated to a smorgasborg of Marcelo Balboa stupidity.

Just looking at this picture will make you soccer IQ drop 50 points.
